Speaker 8:Welcome back to the Virtual Lighting Design Community Podcast. As we pause to reflect on our recent episodes, we've been privileged to host some exceptional conversations in lighting design. Let's take a moment to look back at our last two episodes. We would love to hear your thoughts as well.
Speaker 8:Philipp Raphael from Inside Lighting, based in Berlin, shared invaluable insights on workplace lighting and well-being, challenging traditional productivity-focused approaches. Our community resonated strongly with his vision of transforming lighting from purely functional to wellness-supporting elements. Many of our listeners have commented on how much lighting in workplace design is actually overlooked. Definitely worth a listen for anyone who hasn't yet, and there are lots of tidbits to take away from Philip. Following that, kort Vermeulen from ACT Lighting Design in Brussels offered a masterclass in merging artistic expression with technical precision. His approach to lighting as a storytelling medium has sparked meaningful discussions in our community.
Speaker 8:We'd love to hear your thoughts on these episodes. Join the conversation at membersvldcommunity, where you can view full episodes and share your perspectives. Today, we're excited to highlight Lux Futurum or Lufu 2025, a groundbreaking global recognition program that's redefining lighting design excellence. Unlike traditional awards, lufu focuses on future-oriented concepts, products and projects, building on the success of our 2024 event in Guangzhou. Lufu 2025 represents a unique East meets West platform, created through collaboration between virtual lighting design community and the Zhurong team. We're honored to introduce our esteemed 2025 judges, claudia Paz, with her own independent studio in Lima, peru.
Speaker 1:I'm very excited to be part of the Judge of Lux Futurum Awards. There's a lot of creative minds around the world and I'm looking forward to see what they are thinking about the future.
Speaker 8:Faraz Ishar, lead lighting designer at AE7, a multidisciplinary consultancy in Dubai, UAE.
Speaker 2:We are at this point where we are seeing all these emerging technologies and the generative AI and all the new technologies which are coming up, why is there no platform yet which recognizes something to that order? And Lux Futurum entered the chat last year and I was quite excited about it.
Speaker 8:Daniel Hammond from the BHA School of Lighting in South Africa.
Speaker 3:I'm particularly excited to be here along with all the other judges and to help in the judging criteria of this amazing competition. I have a particular interest in lighting, for light science and its potential to enhance health and well-being.
Speaker 8:Jinky DeJesus, Principal of Light Plan Inc. In the Philippines.
Speaker 4:When I learned about the concept and the objectives, it was really nothing like what I've heard of about design awards. So it's not just lighting design. It delves into the other important uses of light, for example, in healthcare. So this year, I can't wait to see the 2025 entry. Can't wait to be inspired by all the groundbreaking ideas to be presented.
Speaker 5:I'm an architect. I'm not concentrating on design buildings. I have worked with lighting designers before, but I think this is the first time, through these events, I can understand more about the lighting design. So I'm very excited and I'm excited to working with all the people here. I can learn how do you think you know extended my experience in design.
Speaker 8:Karen Owens, founder of Oracle Studio in the UK.
Speaker 6:I truly believe that I loved the concept of East meets West. I love the fact that light is a fundamental part of our health and well-being and the fact that we're all at different times and experiencing the rhythms of light in different parts of the globe, and I can't wait to see how that impacts in the submissions that will be entered in terms of design criteria that's put forward. I think it's going to be incredibly exciting to see that.
Speaker 8:Lauren Dandridge, Principal of Chromatic and Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California, USA.
Speaker 7:I'm very excited about Lux Futurum and being a judge, because I really pride myself on trying to expose my students to the newest, freshest ideas around lighting design, and it's very hard to do that when you aren't part of new events, new conferences, new awards, anything where people are forced to sort of shine a light on themselves, and so I'm so excited to see what everyone has been doing and to see how we can push the boundaries in our industry.
Speaker 8:I encourage all listeners to visit looksfuturemcom to learn more and submit your entries, whether you're an established professional or emerging talent. Lufu 2025 welcomes diverse perspectives and innovative approaches, from enlightening presentations from Philipp Raphael and Corit Vermeulen to the exciting opportunities ahead with LUX Futurum 2025, we're witnessing a transformation in the lighting design profession. This field continues to evolve beyond functional requirements into a discipline that shapes experiences, supports well-being and drives innovation. Stay tuned for more inspiring conversations with industry leaders and don't forget to share your thoughts on our community platform. Thank you for listening and we'll see you in the next episode.
